Dr. Zenia Cortes, MD is a dual board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specialising in sports medicine and foot and ankle surgery. She completed her Residency and Internship at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, followed by an Arthroscopy Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship in Barcelona, Spain, and received her Doctor of Medicine from the UCLA School of Medicine. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and an active member of both the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society and the American Arthroscopy Association of North America.
Dr. Cortes brings deep clinical and scientific research expertise, with numerous industry publications and presentations, and also provides medical legal counsel for complex injury cases. She has participated in international surgical humanitarian missions in Cuba and Kenya, delivering care to underserved communities.
Her extensive travel to over 90 countries, including across Africa, India, and the Arctic and Antarctic, has shaped a deep appreciation for biodiversity and conservation. She has been a longtime supporter of wildlife and conservation organizations including the National Geographic Society and the Centre for Wildlife Studies. Dr. Cortes joined the Centre for Wildlife Studies Board in 2026.
